Garry and Hayley were married recently at Hazlewood Castle near York. Following a civil wedding ceremony in the Victoria room the couple were blessed in St Leaonard’s Chapel before celebrating in the courtyard with their wedding guests

Allerton Castle wedding photography : Andy and Sarah’s Allerton Castle Wedding Photographs : Allerton Castle wedding photographers

Andy and Sarah were married earlier this year in a civil wedding ceremony in Allerton Castle’s spectacular Great Hall.  We arrived to an overcast and slightly tempestuous sky, perfect as a backdrop for dramatic wedding photographs! ( We often hear brides comment how moody skies are what they wanted for their photographs).

Our first job on arrival is to create the establishing photographs, the ones of the wedding venue inside and out, although we photograph a number of weddings at Allerton Castle each year we still like to create new castle images each wedding day – Below: Allerton Castle and the Great Hall set ready for the civil wedding ceremony.

Following our interior and exterior venue photographs we headed up stairs to join Sarah and her bridesmaids during their preparations in the Palace Suite. The bedroom at Allerton Castle lends itself perfectly to bridal preparations and lots of locations for photographs.

Andy and his groomsmen arrived around an hour before the wedding ceremony,  we joined them in Allerton Castle’s  Billiard room for some pre-ceremony wedding photographs. After a few posing photographs at the table we ventured outdoors before the guests arrived to catch the guys against the castle backdrop. The wedding photograph below of Andy and his groomsmen at the snooker table was awarded a Silver in the Guild of Photographers image competition.

With the wedding ceremony taking place at 2PM we were back in the Palace Suite with Sarah and bridesmaids awaiting her fathers arrival to collect her ready for the ceremony. It’s always an emotionally charged moment as dad sees his daughter for the first time on the wedding day and wearing her wedding dress. Today dad didn’t disappoint and we able to capture some great reactions and emotion before they made their way down to the Great Hall where Andy and weddings guests were waiting.

There can be few finer wedding rooms than the imposing hall with it’s 80 foot high ceiling, deep wood panelling and grand entrance staircase, factors that make it so good for creating amazing wedding photographs.

Following the wedding ceremony and signing of the register it was time for the drinks reception and wedding photographs in Allerton’s Memorial Garden. After completing the group wedding photos we took and Andy and Sarah for a short walk around the castle to create a number of photographs of them alone and with their bridal party.

Wedding photography training workshop 2015 : Lake District Photography training course

Early October we made our annual trip to Cumbria for our two Lake District wedding photography training course. Based in the northern lakes on the outskirts of Keswick we were ideally located for locations around Derwent Water, Buttermere, Thirlmere and Crummock Water. October is always a great month as autumn colours begin to show through and waterfalls are starting to gain strength.

Day one started with heavy rain forecast until lunchtime, this was an ideal opportunity to head over to Buttermere and work under the canopy of trees surrounding to create off camera flash images including brolly photographs. The morning was about exploring off camera flash in different locations whilst we incorporated the stunning backdrops of the mountains and fells before a brief pub lunch.

During the afternoon we headed towards Keswick to explore a number of small waterfalls, bridges and a jetty on the shores of Derwent before we finished off the day high on a cliff top with spectacular views overlooking Bassenthwaite and Derwent Water.

With a slightly better weather forecast for day two we again headed towards Buttermere using the famous Buttermere pines as a backdrop for our bride and groom photographs. The pub beckoned again for lunch before we made the steep ascent to a large waterfall and stunning mountain top location (steep ascent in our cars, most of our locations are no more than a few hundred yards from the car). Day two finished close to where we started at Thirlmere with Kelly and Mark on the beach and rocks.

During the two days we experienced, heavy rain, strong winds, bright sunshine and lots of sheep. Great fun and from the feedback afterwards a very positive learning experience for all attendees.

Hazlewood Castle Yorkshire wedding photographs

Behind the Scenes – wedding photography can be wet and dirty.

Late August we posted a wedding photograph to our Facebook page from Leanne and Chris’ wedding at Hazlewood Castle along with a behind the scenes photo showing how we had taken the final photograph making use of the low camera angle, puddle and wide angle lens to give a completely different view point. The image became our most popular ever Facebook post and came as close to being viral as we could ever imagine with tens of thousands of shares and so so many likes on our page and others, one Facebook page reaching almost half a million likes!

We’ve been laying in puddles, wading into lakes and generally shooting in undesirable locations for years as we strive to bring our bride and grooms our best wedding photography and something different from the many run of the mill wedding photographers out there

We aim to achieve a lot of this work in camera, having spent time working on lighting and other techniques to create stunning wedding photographs straight out of camera without relying on too much photoshop manipulation, we prefer photography to the boring computer work.

Don’t forget to like our Facebook page to see more of these photographs

Here’s some examples from the last few years…..

Allerton Castle wedding photographs

One of our first Behind the Scenes, Following a large snow melt in the field outside Allerton Castle was large puddle of water. Bright sun and almost no wind allowed me to take off my shoes and socks and walk into the puddle for the photograph with a great Allerton Castle reflection behind.

Yorkshire-wedding-photographer-The-old-lodge-Malton

Often Venues are surrounded by carparks or have them in direct line of sunsets, This is from Ebony and Shane’s wedding recently at The old lodge, Malton. With the carpark in the north west corner of the venue we were forced to photograph the birde and groom with the cars behind. The top photo shows the location and setting, the bottom was the finished result which required very little photoshop editing. We try and create the effects in camera rather than spending hours editing.

Hazlewood Castle wedding photographs, Yorkshire weddings

A change of view point with this photo or James and Sally at Hazlewood Castle. The top photo shows them in in the field whilst the second wedding photograph adds more drama combined with the dramatic lighting and skies we are well known for.

Mount pleasant Doncaster wedding photographer

Sunset and another car park. Carl and Vicky at the Mount Pleasant Hotel in Doncaster in the summer. The small puddle offered an amazing reflection and with the viewpoint,  lighting and exposure adjustments we were able to remove the car park in camera.

Hazlewood Castle wedding photographs, West Yorkshire weddings

Following heavy rain at Hazlewood Castle a few weeks ago we had a couple of puddles in the courtyard to play with. This wedding photograph of Hayley and Garry after dark involved placing the camera into the water and holding it steady for the relatively long exposure required to create the finished photograph.

Wentbridge House Yorkshire wedding photographer

Wentbridge House for Natalie and Alex’s wedding. Again sunset is inline with the car park. Catching the last rays of sun through the trees at the far end of the car park has brought us close to the cars, however our camera settings, lighting and view point have created something completely different.

Hazlewood Castle Yorkshire wedding photographs

Finally, what started the madness! Leanne and Chris at Hazlewood Castle. The long narrow puddle was ideal for the reflection and getting down and dirty again allowed me to create the long reflection. Our lighting (Just two speedlites – the other is in the hand of my assistant) has again helped create the strong sky and contrast.

Carlton Towers wedding photography and venue

Carlton Towers wedding photography : Chris and Ali’s Wedding Photographs at Carlton Towers

Playing catch up with the blog as we jump right back to December last year for the wedding of Chris and Ali at Carlton Towers near Snaith.

Our day started with bridal preparations in the beauty rooms at Carlton Towers. Chris was also getting ready on site and so we were able to join him and his groomsmen as they finished off getting ready for the wedding day. As a member of a heavy metal band, Chris had chosen fellow band members as his groomsmen to create quite a distinctive look.

The civil ceremony included a Barn Owl delivering the wedding rings and looked amazing inside the rich coloured room at Carlton Towers. Following the wedding ceremony we had time for some outdoor photographs of guests and then Chris and Ali before heading back inside. Although it was quite mild but not really prolonged outdoor weather.

Following Speeches and before first dance we were able to take Chris and Ali outdoors again for a few after dark photographs using Carlton towers as a spectacular backdrop.

The following wedding photographs include many of those we played on the large screen during the evening reception. This is included with all my wedding photography packages, full details available here. www.chrischambersphotography.co.uk/index.php/wedding-photography-packages/
