Holdsworth House wedding photography – Andrew and Natalie’s wedding photographs at Holdsworth House

Andrew and Natalie’s wedding at Holdsworth House near Halifax, Sunday May 6th 2012. The sun is shining, it’s a Sunday and there’s a wedding, amazing. The sky even has fluffy white clouds with no big dirty black ones in sight.

The day begins at with Natalie at home in Huddersfield where along with her bridesmaids and flower girl the house is a hive of activity with every mirror seemingly occupied by a lady applying makeup. Following a number of make up photos and some of the dress, shoes etc we head over to Holdsworth House to join Andrew and his groomsmen pre-wedding for some photographs.

Andrew has surprised Natalie with a vintage VW Camper Van, the imported van makes for a great photography prop and accessory in the pre-wedding arrival photos and afterwards as the obliging driver moves the van to where we need it for the rest of the photographs. Blue skies and fluffy clouds start to give way to longer great ones, but the temperature is still good and the drinks reception continues outside, perfect weather and conditions for plenty of candid photographs.

Waterton Park Hotel Wedding photography Ruth and Gary’s wedding at Walton Hall Wakefield

Gary and Ruth married on Saturday at Waterton Park Hotel on the outskirts of Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Following their civil wedding ceremony on the mainland we headed over to the island for the drinks reception and photographs, both formal and candid as guests enjoyed a break in the weather. With a number of formal photograph requests from the bride and groom to complete before the receiving line and wedding breakfast we were straight to work with at the groups before finishing off with just Ruth and Gary.

Followingt he wedding breakfast Ruth had requested we head off to a Oil Seed Rape field for some different wedding photographs. I had the perfect field in mind and we were able to drive into position and so keep Ruth clean free of yellow spots whilst creating some great wedding photographs, a very fast edit meant we were able to include some of these images on the large screen playing during the evening reception. This is included with all wedding photography packages.

There’s a theme developing here in the latest blog posts and sadly it begins with a talk about the weather. Sadly this post is not going to break from tradition as Nathan and Lisa’s wedding will go on record as probably the luckiest ever with regards to the weather. Read on for more….

Marrying at Kings Croft on the outskirts of Pontefract our day began as we joined Lisa for preparation photographs as she and her bridesmaids were getting ready in the bridal suite. Following a number of photographs including lisa’s amazing wedding dress we ventured outside with Nathan for some photographs with him and the best man and usher. The rain had eased a little and there guys were pretty relaxed about heading out for the photos.

After photographing the wedding ceremony we were waiting whilst the registrars completed the marriage certificates and a glance outside revealed it was starting to brighten. Literally as Nathan and Lisa walked down the aisle together to exit the room the rain stopped and we were able to go straight outside for photographs and drinks reception. Dark grey skies make for a great backdrop for wedding photographs and over the last few years have become almost a signature image of mine. today was not going to disappoint.

With wet tarmac and reflections aplenty there are lots of opportunities and Nathan and lisa were more then happy to oblige for their wedding photographs. The rain had held off perfectly and as we headed back indoors for the wedding breakfast the heavy rain started again. Thankfully during the evening we were able to go back outside for some after dark wedding photographs around Kings Croft.

Waterton Park Wakefield wedding photography : Oliver and Kay’s Walton Hall Wedding

Oliver and Kay married at Waterton Park Hotel on the outskirts of Wakefield on Friday. Following a week of continuous wet and miserable weather it was with just a hint of optimism the forecast showed it being a relatively dry wedding day and maybe even brightening for a short period of time, although not superstitious, we managed to cross everything possible.

The plan had been for a barn owl to swoop in and deliver the wedding rings during the ceremony, however the bird became a little shy at the given moment and with all element of surprise lost the handlers eventually managed to coax the bird down to the best man so he could present the rings. Thankfully the Sybil the Owl lost her shyness later as she posed for photographs outside with Oliver and Kay.

The ever threatening sky made a superb background for the wedding photographs and thankfully the rain managed to just about hold off allowing us to shoot everything outdoors.

Crow Hill wedding photographs : Richard and Jennie’s wedding at Crow Hill Marsden

Richard and Jennie married at Crow Hill in the village of Marsden on the outskirts of Huddersfield. Typical April weather saw us arrive at Crow Hill during a short but heavy rain shower, something which was to become the recurring theme of the day. Thankfully the weather did clear for a short while after the wedding ceremony and we were able to head outside for a short photo session before heading back under the cover of the marquee.

Following the wedding breakfast we ventured outside again for a number of photographs around the house before rejoining the wedding guests in the marquee for the evening reception. The wedding photographs below include some of those we played on the large screen during the evening wedding reception. Allerton Castle wedding photography – Hannah and Adrian’s Pre-wedding photo shoot

I recently caught up with Hannah and Adrian at Allerton Castle for their pre-weding photo shoot. Marrying in June Hannah and Adrian don’t live in the area and so the pre-wedding shoot was a little earlier in the planning timeline than most couples, but thankfully bright blue skies and zero wind made it feel more comparable to June than March.

Hazlewood Castle Wedding Photography – Nick and Rebecca’s York wedding photos

Nick and Rebecca were married near East Keswick between Leeds and York. With the weather forecasters edging their bets with a forecast of rain and sun we were set for the worst. Thankfully the rain held off until during the ceremony and although we had a quick dash to the cars as we left church we were soon driving out of the rain as we headed towards York and Hazlewood Castle.

Before reaching Hazlewood castle we stopped off for a few photographs of Nick and Rebecca at a great location I’d spotted recently. this not only allowed Nick and Rebecca some more time together it meant the guests were able to arrive at Hazlewood Castle before us and so be there to greet the bride and groom upon their arrival.

The weather thankfully played ball throughout the afternoon and into the evening meaning just after first dance we were able to take Nick and Rebecca outdoors for a set of night time photographs, a stunning end to their wedding album.

Anthony and Nicola’s wedding photography at Rudding Park Harrogate

Anthony and Nicola were married recently at Rudding Park near Harrogate, following their civil wedding ceremony the wedding guests also attended a wedding blessing in Rudding Park’s chapel.

On a day more reminiscent of late spring than what was virtually winter the drinks reception was held outdoors, a sign that spring is on its way and summer is just around the corner. With a bright blue sky and lots of happy guests enjoying the afternoon sunshine we were able to quickly complete the requested photographs before shooting candid and more informal pictures.

Following the wedding breakfast we were able to sneak away with Nicola and Anthony for a quick indoor shoot taking in some of the photogenic rooms Rudding Park has to offer.

Matthew and Samara’s wedding album – Italian Storybook wedding photographs from Allerton Castle

It’s certainly been a busy few weeks with albums arriving almost daily from Italy. The Italian storybook wedding albums feature stunning double page photographs and edge to edge printing on vibrant papers all wrapped in superb covers ranging from acrylics and metals to the finest Italian leather. One such album that arrived last week was Matthew and Samara’s 30x30cm storybook featuring a black leather cover with photo aperture and 84 pages all printed on glossy metallic paper. The wedding at Allerton Castle in North Yorkshire featured the colour theme of apple green and thanks to some very creative work from the team of florists at Twisted Willow, the decor and theming in Allerton Castle’s great hall, ballroom and staircase looked superb. We lost count at around 150 apples featured around the flowers and cake etc.

The album layout featuring double page spreads can be seen below. Storybooks are a stunning way of showing off your wedding photographs. Hazlewood Castle and Walton Hall Workshops – 19/20th March

There are still a couple of places left on what will be great fun and action filled days of wedding photography. On March 19th I’ll be at the exclusive Hazlewood Castle near York and Tuesday we’ll be at Walton Hall, a stunning island wedding venue on the outskirts of Wakefield.

Both days will include stalk through techniques and posing as I explain my style and how I create the images before we join a bride and groom model for the photography. During the afternoon we’ll explore the venue to explain how I select my locations with plenty of hands on time photographing the bride and groom models. During the course of each day I’ll demonstrate the use of natural light, flash on and off camera and video light to create photographs that will wow your clients and create stunning big photographs.
