Allerton Castle Wedding Photographer – Richard and Sarah’s Allerton Castle Wedding Photography

Richard and Sarah were married last Saturday in a civil wedding ceremony at the stunning Allerton Castle in North Yorkshire. Although as we arrived at Allerton Castle for bridal Preparations it was overcast the forecast for the day ahead was predicting blue skies, combined with an easterly wind we also had a good chance of a great sunset. (There are times when I feel more like I should work for the Met Office than be a photographer).

Our first port of call was to join Sarah and the bridesmaids in the Palace suite where they would be preparing for the wedding. The large bright room is apparently ideal for make up with lots of natural light from the big windows, the ornate bed and furniture also make for great backdrops for the photographs and must rank as one of the most regal bridal bedrooms in the country.

As the ladies continued we headed off to join the guys in the billiard room for their pre-wedding photographs. With a game in flow it was a great opportunity for some natural shots of the groom and groomsmen before we took them outside into the sun for a few more photographs .

The large staircase at Allerton Castle is always in the back of the bride’s mind pre-wedding, will she make it down without slipping. You’d be surprised how many brides practise walking down in their wedding shoes. This was probably the furthest thing from Sarah’s mind as she turned the corner on the stairs to see the great hall, her husband to be and all the guests waiting, heads turned expectantly. A great moment to capture for their wedding album.

Following the wedding ceremony in the Great Hall and signing of the register, the bride, groom and guests were able to make use of the grounds for the first outdoors wedding drinks reception of 2013. The wind had dropped making the pond and surrounding area of the memorial garden made an ideal backdrop for the group photographs Richard and Sarah had requested. The still pond also offered a few cheeky reflection photographs.

Groups complete we made our way around the front of the castle for some photographs of just Richard and Sarah alone, the blue sky and big sun helped to raise the temperature and also create some great photographs. When we’d arrived at Allerton that morning I’d noticed a large puddle in the adjacent farmers field caused by the recently melted snow. This temporary water feature was to play a big part in a couple of key wedding photographs including the first reflection photograph (above )of the bride and groom standing alongside.

The second guessing of the weather paid off and just before first dance we had a typical Allerton Castle sunset with a clear view of the setting sun turning the sky a mix of oranges and pink. The opportunity for a sunset photograph is too good to miss and thankfully Richard and Sarah. Following the first dance we were back out side for the after dark photographs. The moonless clear sky and lack of light pollution really came into it’s own as the sky was filled with stars.

As mentioned already the bride, groom and castle reflection photographs were taken around a large puddle in a nearby field. the sequence below show how that was created. With grass and various other pollutants spoiling the reflection from the waters edge the only way to create the image I had in mind was to remove my socks and shoes, roll up my trousers and walk into the muddy puddle. That wasn’t so bad in the daytime, but was a little chillier come the night photos!
